Celtic Prayer

On this Election Day as we try to work out how best to use our vote to make a positive difference in our world, I thought I would share the full text of the prayer I tried to learn as I walked Hadrian’s Wall.  I understand it comes from the Celtic oral tradition some time in the first millennium.

You are the peace of all things calm
You are the place to hide from harm

You are the light that shines in dark
You are the heart’s eternal spark

You are the door that’s open wide
You are the guest who waits inside

You are the stranger at the door
You are the calling of the poor

You are my Lord and with me still
You are my love, keep me from ill

You are the light, the truth, the way
You are my Saviour this very day.

I am a (just!) 40 year old vicar in Leicester. My brother Andy Lees died in 2013 aged 38 just three months after my father. They both suffered from Von Hippel Lindau syndrome, a genetic form of cancer. This May I am walking Hadrian's Wall to raise money for VHL UK/Ireland.
